June 2021

Welcome to the June 2021 issue of ev0ke: witchcraft*paganism*lifestyle! In conjunction with Pride Month in the United States, many of the articles, interviews, and reviews this month have a LGBTQIA+ focus.

In Fiction, catch up on the latest installment of Rebecca Buchanan’s serialized urban fantasy/romance, with part nine of “The Necromancer’s Guide to Not Dying While Saving the World (And Falling in Love).” New this month is our Infographic section, which features a special creation by Ashley Nicole Hunter on Divine Love. In the Interviews department, we sit down with Andrew Anderson, author of Pagan Portals: Artio and Artaois; Roselle Angwin, author of A Spell in the Forest, a projected three book series; Samuel David, author of the forthcoming Rod & Ring: An Initiation Into a Mesopotamian Mystery Tradition; and Jessica Mason, founder of the Reel Magic podcast. In Lifestyle, Ashley Nicole Hunter discusses “The 25 Day Mercury Retrograde Challenge” and “The Polytheist Devotional Arts Challenge,” while Rebecca Buchanan draws up “ev0ke’s Recommended Reading List: Queer Speculative Fiction.” Finally, Reviews digs into Headlines and Hydras by Rebecca Chastain, Old Norse For Modern Times by Ian Stuart Sharpe, Dr. Arngrimur Vidali, and Josh Gillingham, and Twilight Run by Daniel R. Potter.

Our Members Only section rounds out this issue with two special offerings. Laurelei Black discusses the issues of sex and gender in ritual in “Traditional Witchcraft, But Not Necessarily Traditional Values (or, Gendered Magick is Passe Y’all).” And from Rebecca Buchanan comes the second part in a new serialized polytheistic science fiction adventure, “Asphalt Gods.”

Enjoy! And, as always, feel free to leave comments or email us at ev0kepublication@gmail.com.
