Welcome to the May 2023 issue of ev0ke: witchcraft*paganism*lifestyle! Our theme for this issue is — hold on! — sex magic! Yep, that’s right. Sex and magic.

So. You know. Maybe don’t read this issue at work.

Throughout this issue (and in the forthcoming mid-month bonus content) you will find discussions of sex and magic and how the two go together (or not), as well as their connections with art, death, food, grief, poetry, and more.

First up is the May 2023 Playlist. Check out our suggestions and offer a few of your own. Next is a special free Art section, in which Ashley Nicole Hunter features several of her devotional art creations. Then, in ev0king the Moon, guest columnist Erin Aurelia Lund discusses the ancient Irish Goddess, Brighid. In ev0king the Question, we return to the matter of sex magic, followed by interviews with Irisanya Moon (Honoring the Wild) and Karen Tate (Navigating Abuse). Finally, in Lifestyle, Ashley Nicole Hunter has part five of her free Writer’s Oracle Deck.

Then it’s on to the Member Only section. In Columns, Reverend Bill Duvendack returns with the next installment of “The Celestial Beacon,” while Laurelei Black discusses aphrodisiacs in “Chalk and Cheese.” Sex magic is again the topic of conversation in “Crooked House” by Laurelei Black, while Rebecca Buchanan looks at tools for story creation in “Faith and Fairy Tales.” And in “Pandemos,” Laurelei Black examines the history Aphrodite Porne. In Fiction, two authors make their ev0ke debut: Kim Strattford with “The Spirit Is Willing” and Ed Ahern with “Sweet Petunia.” Finally, in Poetry, we have the haunting “At the Mention of Grief All Queer Confess” by Nnadi Samuel, the ballad-inspired “Three Roses of Carterhaugh” by Rebecca Buchanan, and “Venus di Milo” by Anna Laura Falvey.

As always, we hope you enjoy the issue. If you have any questions or comments, please make a note in the comment field or reach out to us at ev0kepublication@gmail.com.
