Potions, tinctures, ointments and incenses! Teas and salves, sachets and essential oils! When it comes to ways to deliver a spell, charm, or enchantment, witches are some crafty people (I’ll see myself out, now). It shouldn’t have been any shock to you, then, that the day would come when we would master the popsicle. I promise they’ll be tastier than any of your standard newt’s eyes or pickled bat’s brains (or whatever it is mundanes think we chow on).
Below are two of my very favorite spellsicles. For each of them, you will need to have handy some popsicle molds and a blender. Don’t be surprised if you recognize the recipe or have made a variation in the past, what’s important is the magic and your intentions, not what goes into the cauldron. Feel free to experiment and add in a few of your own special touches — -magic works best when it’s fun (and yummy)!
Peaches and Dreams Spellsicles
(Whip these up on a hot summer night when the crickets are calling, the wind is rustling the trees, and you’re seeking answers in your dreams. You won’t be disappointed.)
3 small peaches, peeled, halved, and pitted (set one aside)2 tbsp very good sweet Riesling or Moscato (I suggest the Moscato called “Elektra”)1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 can coconut milk1 tbsp Bailey’s Irish Creme1 tsp white, granulated sugar1/2 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp sweetened, shredded coconut
Cut the peeled peach up into small pieces and distribute them evenly between your popsicle molds. Combine the other two peaches in a blender with the liquor, sugar, and lemon juice. Blend until only tiny bits of fruit are left. Pour until you fill the molds up halfway. Freeze about an hour, or until mostly set.
Whisk together remaining ingredients. Pour into molds until you reach the top, then secure the lids. Freeze until solid − 5 or more hours. Enjoy one just before bed while sitting on your porch or watching the night sky from your window.
Alluring Cherry Spellsicles
(Savor one of these when you want to feel pretty, fascinating, or just plain sexy. Cherries are linked with Venus, the Roman goddess of love, and the antioxidants found in them are nothing but good for you.)
1 lb bag of either frozen or fresh, pitted cherries
2 cups plain yogurt
Make sure the pits are removed from the cherries (don’t bust up your kitchen appliances for this) and blend them with the yogurt in a food processor (skin and all) until the yogurt turns the color of your cherries.
Pour the mixture into molds and freeze overnight.
If you find that you simply can’t wait, blend a few ice cubes in with the mixture and just enjoy it as a healthy, magic-filled smoothie!
Doctors may tell you that if something tastes bad it’s probably good for you, but as every witch knows that doesn’t have to be the case at all, especially when it comes to your spells. This summer, why not treat yourself to a bit of magic, a bit of fun, and a bit of flavor?
